Exhibition “Students at war – Unissued Diplomas” at FAU
From November 13 to December 4, 2024, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg hosts the moving exhibition “Students at War – Unissued Diplomas” at the university’s main library (Schuhstraße 1a, 91052 Erlangen). This exhibition, part of the international Unissued Diplomas initiative, commemorates the Ukrainian students who lost their lives during the ongoing war in Ukraine and will never have the chance to graduate.
The Unissued Diplomas initiative began in 2023 and has since organized over 110 exhibitions in 24 countries. The current exhibition at FAU tells the stories of 40 Ukrainian students who died during the Russian invasion, memorializing their dreams and academic achievements.
The exhibition at FAU was made possible thanks to the dedicated efforts of Prof. Dr. Moritz Florin (Chair of Modern and Contemporary History with a focus on Eastern Europe), his team, and the Bamberg:UA organization, whose commitment was instrumental in bringing this important tribute to FAU.
The opening ceremony of the Unissued Diplomas exhibition at FAU on November 13 was a profound moment of reflection. Ukrainian students who fled to Germany shared their personal experiences, describing how the war had impacted their education and future aspirations. Dr. Anastasiia Panchuk, coordinator of the FAU PACT4Ukraine Project, also addressed attendees, highlighting FAU’s dedicated support for Ukrainians since 2022 and providing updates on the FAU4Ukraine initiative.
The exhibition is open to all, offering a powerful reminder of the war’s impact on young lives.
